One of Those Days

Have you ever had one of those days
when you feel like you’re trapped in a small room?
With barely any space to stretch your legs,
they feel numb and jello-like.

Have you ever had one of those days
when you’ve lost the ability to breath?
The air is thick with desperation and fear,
with a self-loathing you can’t explain.

Have you ever had one of those days
when you’ve forgotten how to smile?
Your facial muscles tense and cease
to express any sense of emotion.

Have you ever had one of those days
when you find yourself in a dark alley—
one that is teeming with the worst kinds
of pests, where but nothingness resides?

Have you ever had one such day?
Or many just like them?
If you have, then hold my hand.
And, in quiet stillness, overcome.
